Have you ever wished to be as successful as Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk? This question comes with an obvious answer: yes. Now, I don’t know their success story and what exactly they did to achieve success. However, I am sure most of us can agree that there was some form of motivation involved.
I’ll be honest with you:
It’s not motivation that makes you 100% successful. It’s consistency, discipline, and dedication to your work. Because there will be days when we are not motivated to work but have to get up anyway.
Despite this, motivation is still an important factor in the equation of success. It’s the “why” factor in the pursuit of our goals. With that being said, it’s important to find ways to keep yourself motivated.

Although we all have different definitions of success, it’s true that we all have an end goal. Whether it be to retire early, have healthier relationships, or successfully raise good children, they are all goals that we have for ourselves.
You will not be motivated to do anything if you have no goals or aspirations in life. Each day wouldn’t be taken seriously because there is nothing you are looking forward to. Having a goal is essential to having the motivation to get up every morning.
Here’s the deal:
The goal that you establish for yourself has to be realistic but also a reflection of what you truly desire. It shouldn’t be something too superficial. It needs to have real meaning to you. That way, you can take it seriously.
There are times when working solo won’t work for you. Down the road, you will realize that teamwork is inevitable. That’s how the world works.
Why you should care:
The type of people you surround yourself with can have a huge impact on you. They can either tear you down or lift you up. These moments are crucial to your success because they can make or break you.
Imagine being around people who drain you and are discouraging. This makes it a lot tougher to stay motivated and adds an extra unnecessary obstacle. When you’re surrounded by supportive people, they will give you constructive criticism and will genuinely have your best interest at heart.
Remember that time when a lot of YouTubers took a break from YouTube? It seemed like everyone was catching the burnout bug and needed a minute to step away from the camera.
I don’t blame them. As entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals, it was hard for them to balance their work-life which in turn affected their motivation.
Here’s why breaks are important:
Taking breaks is important to restore creativity and reduce stress (1). By simply stepping away from work, you can boost productivity and have a refreshed brain to make better decisions. A refreshed brain means better creativity and motivation to continue working.
Breaks can happen in a lot of forms. Some people take weeks to months off while others just need a few moments to themselves during their workday.
Aside from the duration of your break, what you do is important as well. Some people need a break from society to kick in their creativity. Going on vacation, taking a walk, hiking, or even playing sports will help reset your brain.
Anything that will keep your mind off that goal for a bit will be helpful in recharging. That way, you’ll be refreshed to start working again and have the motivation.
Over the years, we’ve seen how beneficial routines can be for productivity. In a similar manner, routines can help us stay motivated for success.
Following a routine helps you stay motivated because you know exactly what you have to do without wasting any time. It gives you a sense of urgency to keep the work momentum going. Aside from this, it can help with stress levels and better sleep which will recharge you for the next day (2).
If you’re like me and have moments of just being lost, a routine will help you get back on your feet and motivate you to start working again.
A part of success is the journey. And a great approach to achieving success is setting systems for yourself.
Check this out:
A system is a method of doing a group of tasks that work for you. The key is to make it work for you and for it to be custom set.
This is important because we want to enjoy our journey towards success. If we are so hyper focused on the end goal, we will never enjoy life for what it is. This is especially true because the process is where the majority of our life is dedicated to. So we might as well enjoy it.
If you don’t learn to love the process, you’ll find that all your time has been taken from you and that all you can hold onto is that one point of success. As I always say, if you love what you’re doing, you’ll be motivated to do it. Getting up in the morning is much easier when you love what you are doing.
Besides, life is too short to not love each day that passes by. Try practicing habits that will make you love the process and you’ll become a motivated person.
Yeah, I know:
This tip sounds intimidating and probably something you’d avoid doing. But give me a chance and you’ll see why it’s worth it.
I used to be one of those people who wasn’t a fan of conversing with very accomplished people. I always assumed that all they wanted to do was show off and make everyone know how much better they were than the rest of us. I assumed it was just a way to boast about all their wealth and accomplishments.
However, I realized that not all successful people are out there to make you feel bad. There are genuine people who wish for you to be successful and are willing to give advice if you give them a chance.
Hear me out:
Successful people have so much knowledge from their time at trial and error. The things you are figuring out now are most likely things that have been solved. This saves a lot of time for you. So it’s obvious to see the benefits of seeking mentorship. However, remember that you want to seek out people who genuinely want you to succeed rather than flaunt what they accomplished.
Their success stories should be a motivating factor that links you toward your goals.
There’s nothing more satisfying than looking back at all the progress that you made. If you’re like me, then seeing how far you’ve come makes you motivated to keep going. It makes me think, “it’s too late to back out now.”
Aside from this, it reminds me that I am a capable being and that I was able to achieve things that I didn’t think I would do. Nothing can be more motivating than seeing progress. You’ll then become accustomed to getting better and better which will consequently get you motivated to keep going.
To better illustrate this tip, I’ll use the example of exercising.
Usually, people are motivated to exercise when they have their favorite workout clothes and equipment ready. At least for me, I like to have good workout clothes that make me feel confident and comfortable. I like having jump ropes, weights, and other necessary equipment that will help me achieve my fitness goals. It makes the process of working out more fun.
Similarly, when working towards your goal, it can be motivating to work with things that you like to make the process more interesting.
Do you want to be a writer? Invest in a good keyboard and desktop setup.
Are you interested in being a chef? Use Google to find some good-quality kitchen utensils.
Or are you inspired to be an artist? Look at some well-branded brushes.
A part of enjoying the process is enjoying what you do with the little tasks. Invest in resources you like and that work for you and you’ll be more motivated than ever!
I’d be lying to you if I said that your road to success will be smooth. It won’t be.
Every once and a while you’ll experience failure that will make you rethink your goal, and question your worth and the path that you are on.
That doesn’t mean you have to give up:
The very failure you experience could be exactly what you need to get you back on your feet and redirect you towards the right path. Rather than using failure as a reason to give up, let it be your motivator to get back on track. Try things that you haven’t done before. Take risks and learn from your mistakes.
If you’re a frequent reader of my blog, I am sure you’ve come across this tip very often. Self-discovery and being aware of who you are is so important because it allows you to explore options that work for you and your personality type. It’s what makes you unique in your approach to staying motivated.
Although I can give some general tips that will help motivate you towards your success goals, each person is different and works better with different kinds of methods. If you can figure out what works for you best, then you can work most effectively towards your goals.
Some people love motivating themselves through structured means while others are motivated in opposite ways. It’s up to you to know which one is effective.
The motivation to get something done won’t always be present. We all experience ups and downs in our life that can change the way we feel about a certain day. However, finding ways that can help keep you motivated can kick-start your drive to succeed.
Take the time to see what works for you and you’ll find that the road to success isn’t too far.
As a kid, I loved climbing around the playground, swimming, and running outdoors with my friends. This energy was eventually channeled into middle school, high
